The full name is Newcastle upon Tyne, but just Newcastle is more often used by its inhabitants. Newcastle spreads on the north bank of the River Tyne in the region of North East England. Newcastle has an population 259 000 inhabtants. Newcastle is also academical town, there are two universities: Newcastle University, which obtained Sunday Times University of the Year award in year 2000 and newer Northumbria University, which was founded in 1992.
Newcastle has rich sporting history and long sporting tradition. The famous football club Newcastle United F.C. is settlet in Newcastle. Newcastle United F.C. plays Premier League.

Newcastle History
Newcastle was founded by Roman emperor Hadrianus. Visitors can see ruins of famous Hadrian's Wal till this time near to Newcastle. Newcastle was England's northern fortress in Middle Ages because of the war with Scotland. Newcastle became developed industrial city in 17th and 18th centuries.
